Video: Sharp screen heading to mystery tablet

Could this be the screen in the rumored iPad mini?

Sharp is showing at Japan's Ceatec expo this week 7-inch displays based on its IGZO technology that are targeted at tablet PCs. The screens are already in mass production and Sharp won't name its customer, although the Apple rumor mill has tipped IGZO for use in Apple products.

Sharp already supplies screens for the iPhone.

IGZO, a proprietary Sharp technology, allows for smaller pixels and lower power consumption against conventional LCD panels and is expected to be used in a number of products.

Also on show, a prototype monitor based on an IGZO panel. The 32-inch screen has four times the resolution of a high-definition monitor and is targeted at specialist markets like medical imaging. Sharp hasn't announced a launch date or price.

The company is also showing the latest developments in its LCD technology.

These screens, targeted at smartphones, have 1.3 times the picture density of today's screens. That means finer text and better-looking images. The screens will have premium prices and have just started mass production.
