Video: Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ to take on Amazon, Apple


Barnes & Noble introduced two new tablets Wednesday with 7-inch and 9-inch displays that offer profiles for each user, making it easier for families to share devices. The Nook HD and Nook HD plus both run Android and will start shipping in the US in October and the UK in November. The 7-inch Nook HD has a resolution of 1440x900 pixels . It runs a dual core 1.3 GHz processor and will cost 199 dollars.

The Nook HD plus has a 9 inch display and resolution fo 1920 by 1280 pixels. It has a dual core 1.5 gigahertz processor and starts at 269 dollars for the 16 GB version. The 9-inch tablet is designed to compete with Apple's iPad, which starts at 499 dollars.

Barnes and Noble said that 50 percent of tablet owners share their devices and Nook profiles work just like profiles on computers, where users have their own content and layout.

Barnes and Noble follows publishing competitor Amazon by just a few weeks. Amazon intorudced updated verions of its tablet. The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire starts at 299 dollars with 16 GB of storage
