Video: Asus Transformer Pad 300 review

The Asus Transformer Pad 300 is a 10.1in Android tablet that bears more than a passing resemblence to the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime.

Indeed, the Asus Transformer Pad 300 (TF300T) is, in essence, a cross between the original Asus Eee Pad Transformer (TF101) and the Eee Pad Transformer Prime (TF201), sporting the same shapely curves as the latter, with a plastic textured shell like the former. Like its Transformer brethren the Pad 300 has a hybrid design incorporating a removable keyboard dock. This means it functions as a tablet but also turns into a netbook type machine when attached to the dock.

Due to its plastic casing the Transformer doesn't have the best build quality in the world, especially when compared to the more expensive Prime.

The Pad 300 is £100 cheaper than the Prime, the specifications stack up surprisingly well. Under the plastic covers is the same nVidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

Using the keyboard dock with the tablet is a joy. We found having a keyboard and trackpad in addition to the touchscreen a very useful feature. It also makes transporting the device easier because it docks and folds together like a laptop.

If you’re bothered about cameras on a tablet then the Transformer Pad 300 offers two great ones. And the Transformer Pad 300 is no exception and has Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out-the-box. The line-up of Transformer tablets offers an amazing amount of battery life, too.

The Transformer Pad 300 offers an attractive package for a reasonable price. £399 will get you 32GB of storage and the keyboard dock thrown in too. The excellent selection of ports, decent screen, competent performance and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich round-off a solid effort from Asus.
