Video: The Byte - Google Drive, robo spider, Apple sales, rowboat tech


Google finally launched the rumored Google Drive, offering users f gigs of free space in an environment that syncs across multiple devices. Users can get 100 gigs for 5 dollars a month and a terabyte for 50. It also makes scanned files searchable using OCR.

It works like a robotic spider, weaving a web of art on its own. It's a project at MIT that's only been under development for 3 weeks. The robot knows where all the pegs are in the structure, but soon researchers plan to make the bot autonomous.

Android appears to be no competition for Apple, which managed to beat its expectations for iPhone sales in its 2nd quarter. Revenue and profit also jumped. iPhones saw 88 percent growth, while iPads 151 percent. Macs and iPods both saw declines.

Rowers plan to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 60 days in this small boat, along with help from technology. Solar panels will power gadgets and a Wi-Fi hotspot will let the pair of rowers blog from the open ocean. They plan to start the journey in mid may.
