Video: The Byte - iPad 3 and LTE, Yahoo shareholder challenges board, Android losing to iOS, CERN increases LHC speed


Apple's iPad 3 will debut on March 7 and could support US LTE data networks. Faster than 3G, LTE is important for tablet users who typically consume more video than smartphone users. Verizon has the edge on LTE serving 195 US markets. 

New iPad review

Yahoo faces a board challenge from a shareholder who rejected the proposed candidates and suggested his own, which includes former NBC chief Jeff Zucker. Daniel Loeb owns just over 5 percent of Yahoo and wants the company to focus more on media and advertising. 

Android lost smartphone marketshare for the first time as Apple had a great fourth quarter thanks to the iPhone 4S. Android is still the most popular smartphone OS with more than 50 percent market share. Apple has about a 25 percent market share, and Symbian 12 percent. 

CERN's Large Hadron Collider is shifting into high gear. From 3 and half teraelectron volts to 4 for the rest of 2012. It broke records at 7, but only for a short time. The increased speed can yield more data about the Higgs Boson or God particle.
