Acronis True Image Home 2010 is the first upgrade to True Image we've seen in a while that didn't have "must maintain revenue stream" tattooed all over it. There may still be a few bugs we haven't spotted yet in this new version, but so far it has proved stable, as well as a most satisfying improvement. A 30-day trial on the company's website lets you take a pain-free look-see at Acronis True Image Home 2010.

Fast, intuitive, and reliable, CloudBerry Explorer is an impressive piece of freeware. The $40 Pro version supports compression and chunking for speeding up large file transfers, and customizable encryption for security. But most developers will not rely on these features, and the free version is quite sufficient for effective management of Google Storage.

DataInherit Silver Safe is an easy and neat way to pass on digital data, a function that's likely to become more relevant as the years go by. But as you'll need to commit to paying for the rest of your life, it may be of value only to those whose digital estate is sufficiently worthy.
