The Top 5 Printers you can buy in July 2011

5. Brother HL-5380DN

  • Rating: Rated 7 out of 10

The Brother is a serious-minded printer for those who like their options. It’s not pretty, and its output is a little on the light side. Given the availability of the inferior but still good Kyocera Mita FS-1320D for around £160, this printer does need to be around £50 cheaper. Nonetheless, the running costs are very good, and as a reliable page churner, this model has merit.

4. HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color Printer M451dn

  • RRP: £378 inc. VAT
  • Rating: Rated 6 out of 10

If you print in any sort of volume, the ongoing costs for any model in the M451 product line will hurt you eventually - especially if you print lots of colour. Alternatives in this price range include the Dell 2150cdn and Brother HL-4570CDW; the latter's high-yield supplies are much less expensive than the M451dn's.

3. Samsung ML-3710ND

  • RRP: £200 inc VAT
  • Rating: Rated 9 out of 10

The Samsung ML-3710ND may be a physically hideous printer, but it’s very effective at its job. The expansion options are varied, and speed is very capable. Throw in the informative eco tools and you have a printer that projects genuine beauty from within.

2. Kyocera Mita FS-C5250DN

  • RRP: £460 inc. VAT
  • Rating: Rated 9 out of 10

With superb running costs and searing speed, the Kyocera Mita FS-C5250DN is quite a model. Only its slightly disappointing colour photo printing makes us stop short of giving it a huge recommendation.

1. Kyocera Mita FS-1320D

  • RRP: £177.6 inc VAT
  • Rating: Rated 9 out of 10

With low running costs, high performance and strong paper handling, the Kyocera Mita FS-1320D could be a brilliant acquisition for businesses seeking fast text output. The lack of network facilities is the only significant flaw, and even this can be fixed by paying a little more for the FS-1370DN.
