Group test: What's the best Mini PC?

The six best Mini PCs

PC Advisor reviews the six best Mini PCs on sale in the UK today.

1. Zotac Nano XS AD13 Plus review

  • RatingRated 8 out of 10
  • Reviewed on: 5 April 13
  • RRP: £300 inc. VAT

The miniest of mini PCs, the Zotac Nano XS AD13 occupies less space than the cables you’ll be plugging into it. Performance is merely adequate in numerical terms, but highly impressive when you consider the PCs tiny dimensions. Excellent connectivity options are provided, but Wi-Fi comes via an external bundled adaptor.

Soundmatters foxL v22. Apple Mac mini (Late 2012) with Fusion Drive2

  • RatingRated 9 out of 10
  • Reviewed on: 11 April 13
  • RRP: £959 inc. VAT

Beautiful, minimalist design combined with wonderful build quality make the slick Mac mini a highly attractive proposition. It’s also capable of class-leading performance when fitted with the quad-core here, although it will be harder to keep cool. It comes with a massive 1TB hybrid drive and an equally massive price; or you can investigate the entry Core i5 model that starts at just £499.

3. Sapphire Edge VS8

  • RatingRated 8 out of 10
  • Reviewed on: 11 April
  • RRP: £277 inc. VAT

The Edge VS8 delivers somewhat unimpressive general performance, but really comes into its own with multimedia and gaming where it can outclass the competition. A good set of connectivity options is provided, along with a roomy 500GB hard drive. It can function well as a stand-alone family entertainment hub and is available at a very low price.

4. Chillblast Fusion NUC

  • RatingRated 8 out of 10
  • Reviewed on: 10 April 13
  • RRP: £549 inc. VAT

Cute, but crippled. Powerful, but pricey. The Fusion NUC is very fast and incredibly power-efficient. It’s very quick thanks to that 128GB Intel SSD, but this will be too small for many. And no USB 3.0 ports make it more Last Decade's Unit Computing. You’ll have to find a Thunderbolt drive or dock for decent speeds from any external drive.

5. Tiny Green PC Intense PC Pro

  • RatingRated 8 out of 10
  • Reviewed on: 10 April 13
  • RRP: £791 inc. VAT

The Intense PC is expensive, but built to a very high standard suitable for industrial uses and capable of enhanced connectivity options via customisable front panels. Its fanless design ensures very quiet operation even under full load. It also performs very well, thanks to a dual-core Intel Core i7 processor.

6. MSI Wind Box DC110

  • RatingRated 7 out of 10
  • Reviewed on: 10 April 13
  • RRP: £280 inc. VAT

A very competitively-priced mini PC with a good out-of-box experience for home users, the Wind Box DC110 is also rather slow and lacks USB 3.0 or any other high-speed interface. It also suffers from considerably weaker graphics performance than the competition.
