Acer's Iconia A3 is the firm's shiny new 10 in Android tablet. Here's our Acer Iconia A3 hands-on review from IFA 2013.

If you're looking for a 10 in tablet and haven't got hundreds of pounds to spend, the Iconia A3 could be worth a look. Acer has confirmed the device will start at a suggested €249 for the Wi-Fi only model so we're talking budget end of the market here. Despite the low price point, the A3 is reasonable well kitted out. The device is fairly plain to look at, resembling the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 a fair amount. A glass front and a plastic rear cover is uneventful and build quality seems to be respectable.

That 10 in display is by no means the best we've seen with an unexciting 1280 x 800 resolution. That's a pixel density of just 149 ppi compared to, for example, the Google Nexus 10's 300 ppi. You get what you pay for as they say. It is, at least, an IPS display so viewing angles are decent.

Initial impressions on performance are favorable with a 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. The 'A' part of the tablet's name means the device runs on Android and we found the 4.2 Jelly Bean interface to run nice a smooth on the whole.

The Iconia A3 will come with 16- or 32 GB of internal storage and there's a microSD card slot for expansion which is a plus point over many rival tablets. Beyond the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, there's an unusual but welcome micro HDMI port included.

We were unable to test out the 'immersive' Dolby Digital Plus sound system in the noisy show hall at IFA and we'll have to wait for our review unit to test out the battery life too. Acer touts nine hours of video playback. We'll also put the 5 Mp rear camera through its paces.

The Acer Iconia A3 tablet seems like a solid if uneventful 10 in tablet which could make for a great budget buy. Look out for a full review soon.
