Samsung Ativ Tab 3 Windows 8 tablet

As part of its new Ativ range of PCs, laptops and tablets, Samsung has introduced the Ativ Tab 3. Read our Samsung Ativ Tab 3 hands-on review to find out more.

As you can see, the Ativ Tab 3 looks very much like the Galaxy Tab range. You can think of it as simple a Windows 8 version of Samsung's Android tablets.

The Ativ Tab 3 is a 10.1in tablet with a laptop-esque resolution of 1366x768. Samsung claims it's the thinnest Windows 8 tablet available at 8.2mm. It's reasonably light too at 550g. It has a similarly plastic build to Samsung's other devices.

Like Samsung's Galaxy Note range, the Ativ Tab 3 comes with an S Pen stylus and it also comes with SideSync software allowing another device, such as a smartphone, to be used as a second screen and for other tasks such as file backup.

We didn't manage to spend overly long with the Ativ Tab 3 during our short briefing but the Intel Atom Z2760 processor and 2GB of RAM seemed to be running the tablet well. It has a large 64GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot for expansion.

Samsung touts a battery life of up to 10 hours from the tablet and it unusually has a Micro HDMI port for connecting it to larger displays.

As well as Windows 8, the Ativ Tab 3 comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office and S Note 2.0. The new version of S Note includes features such as AirView (found on the Galaxy S4) which lets you hover over items without touching the screen and gain a preview of information – an email or photos contained in an album, for example.

Samsung hasn't announced a price for the Ativ Tab 3 yet but it will be released 'later this year'.
