TurboDemo 6.0 Professional

£499 inc VAT

Manufacturer: TurboDemo

Our Rating: We rate this 2.5 out of 5

At first glance, it's easy to mistake TurboDemo for a slightly advanced version of screen- grabbing software such as SnagIt or the venerable Lotus ScreenCam. Five minutes' use, however, quickly demonstrates that TurboDemo is much, much more than this.

Once you've set the size of your target screen and enabled hotkeys to pause or transfer screenshots, the program monitors all of your on-screen movements and actions to create highly sophisticated demos without the need for any programming at all.

These actions can be played immediately as a seamless video or edited. If you are using the Professional release you can customise your demo with quizzes - preventing users from moving to the next screen, for example, until they complete a section of a tutorial.

New to version 6.0 is the ability to launch the program across a network with no installation, and demos can now be recorded under Linux and Mac OS as well as Windows. The finished movie has always been platform-independent.

You can now also create high-quality Flash demos, and a new format, ASF (advanced streaming format), is supported for Media Player 9.0 users. Nor are you restricted to output. As well as Flash and ASF, finished demos can be exported as Java or a standalone EXE file.

The program is ridiculously easy to use and will be helpful for anyone creating instructional software. This is a great program for a specific use. It's very expensive, though, and what's more, the prices given are a special offer - it should still be in place by the time you read this, but recommended prices are between 20 and 25 percent higher.
