With so many security suites on the market, many applications require a killer feature to stand out from the crowd. And, while reliability and constant updates against new threats are key, BullGuard's speciality is online backup that makes protecting data a breeze – even if your PC goes down.
As with rival security packages, antivirus protection and a firewall are central themes for BullGuard. And, as you would expect, your hard drive and email are scanned for viruses and Trojans, while the program maintains protection with the minimum of fuss.
BullGuard 7.0 employs pattern recognition to monitor potential malware that hasn't yet been identified as a virus. This is fairly standard, but protection for IM (instant messaging) and P2P (peer-to-peer) applications such as MSN and Kazaa is an added bonus.
New to version 7.0 is an antispyware element. This eliminates adware and keyloggers, cleans Registry keys and cookies and protects personal information. BullGuard's firewall does a good job of securing your PC, monitoring incoming and outgoing traffic that might compromise your system. It also offers an antiphishing too that uses a regularly updated database to prevent you accessing known malicious sites.
Which brings us to BullGuard's Backup. All subscribers receive 1GB storage, with transfers encrypted so that data remains secure while on the move. Users can, for an extra charge, increase the amount of storage to 3GB. And the backup process can be automatically scheduled so that only modified files will be transferred, minimising bandwidth usage.
