Intellimover Transfer Your PC Deluxe

£50 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Nova

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

Moving data from your existing computer to a new one can be a painful business. Intellimover Transfer Your PC can ease the trauma.

Moving data from your existing computer to a new one can be a painful business; no-one wants to back up a fully loaded hard drive in one go. Intellimover Transfer Your PC can ease the trauma and automate the task with direct transfer cables.

Choose from either of the supplied cables: parallel for older PCs or USB for more recent models. There's also the more technically complex but faster option of transferring via a pre-configured network connection.

The software then automatically searches for information such as OS (operating system) details, applications, email clients and web browsers. This can take several minutes to complete. Then you're presented with a menu in which you can select files and settings to transfer. Your files are gathered together by type, so you can, for example, copy all of your MP3s or Jpegs without searching for them.

The bundled SecureClean package will permanently erase data from your old PC afterwards, reducing the risk of sharing your private data with a new owner. Simple Backup allows you to keep the data on your new PC secure by backing up to discs.

This package won't move your applications or OS from one PC to another, but it does move fiddly things such as email accounts, important files and system settings.

Intellimover Transfer Your PC Deluxe replaces Orlogix's Replace MyPC product, although there may be some copies of the latter left in the shops. At £50 – and with an additional cable – the Deluxe version offers better value for money. And it removes software-based restrictions on transferring more than one PC.

    Orlogix VirtualDrive 9.0

If you play a lot of games at home then you might find the following scenario familiar. You're itching to play Dungeon Siege II, for example, but when you try to fire it up, your PC tells you that the wrong disc is in the drive. Opening up your CD drive you find that Mum's been playing Scrabble again and, what's more, she seems to have mislaid your precious DSII disc.

While utilities that compress files are now bundled with just about every application imaginable, the two classic applications still remain WinZip (now owned by Corel) and StuffIt. Stuffit Deluxe 11.0 is probably less familiar to Windows users, but was for a long time the standard zip utility for the Apple Mac.
