When you're in an airport or a city you don't know your way around, finding a wireless hotspot is a bit hit and miss. If you're not within direct range of a Wi-Fi signal, there is no way of knowing whether you are within a few yards or miles of the nearest free/paid for hotspot…until now, say hello to the Wi-Fi Finder Android app.
Wi-Fi Finder is a free app that has an online and offline directory of over 500,000 different hotspot locations in 144 different countries. The app relies on users submitting their local hotspot locations to a central Wi-Fi Finder server, it then stores and relays all its Wi-Fi information to all of its app users - it works like a UGC dream come true.
If you've already got a Wi-Fi connection, then this app is great for finding what is in your vicinity, Simply click the Scan button and Wi-Fi Finder will display all of you local hotspots on an aesthetically pleasing and easy to digest map.
The offline feature is what makes the app really earns its keep. With this you can search for all known Wi-Fi hotspots by individual towns or post/zip codes all over the world. Wi-Fi finder will then give you the name and address of where you can find local hotspots. This is a free add-on that has to be downloaded after the app is installed. At the minute the file size is only 12MB, but as people keep adding hotspots and new towns, this will inevitably get bigger. Which can only be a good thing for the app.
Using the app is easy and quick to master. Everything you need like the inbuilt Wi-Fi scanner, Public Wi-Fi Near Me search tool is on the home screen is easy to find and operate. All in all it's a thoroughly good app, that we'd strongly recommend you download if you're a frequent traveller or like me, do not have 3G on your Android device.
