BT Digital Vault review

£4.99 a month for up to 50GB of archive space

Manufacturer: BT

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

As you'll guess, the BT Digital Vault backup service is part of BT Broadband and the website reflects this integration.

As you’ll guess, the BT Digital Vault backup service is part of BT Broadband and the website reflects this integration.

However, there’s no need to be a BT broadband customer to use the Digital Vault; you can sign up anyway and enjoy 5GB of free online storage, hosted in the UK. BT gives you an archive anyway if you become a broadband customer. Otherwise it’s £4.99 a month for up to 50GB of archive space. Broadband customers and anyone on the Vault Plus £4.99 subscription gets an Auto Backup applet that makes the whole thing painless.

Another useful feature of BT Digital Vault is the photo and video sharing element that works by inviting people to view specific content. It’s great for sharing family holiday snaps, for instance.

Usefully, the BT Digital Vault site outlines approximately how many photos, music tracks and video clips your digital vault can hold. Logging in allows you to play your music collection from afar, or scroll through your photo collection, without also needing to take over your home PC from afar a la remote access.

Though not really a business tool, the generous storage allowance and access-anywhere, anytime elements could appeal if you often need to pull down large files for marketing or sales pitches, for instance.
