The Sky+ iPhone app allows you to record your favourite programmes wherever you are via an Apple iPhone or iPod touch.
Most users of Sky's Sky+ digital video recorder wouldn't give it up without a fight, and now there's a clever iPhone app that makes the service truly mobile.
The Sky+ iPhone app allows you to record your favourite programmes wherever you are via an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch.
The app gives instant access to the seven-day Sky TV channel guide (see below).
If you're familiar with the Sky channel guide you'll find the Sky+ app easy to get used to.
You find the show by scrolling channels and times or via a simple search.
Then just as you're used to with your TV remote, press Record and the programme will be recorded on your Sky+ box for you to watch at home.
To use the Remote Record facility, you will first need to ensure you have a Sky Remote Record account by registering with Sky.com
If you have previously registered for any other Sky service such as Sky Player or have Sky Broadband you will have been given a username and password. Login to My Sky to use this service.
Once you have followed the sign-up instructions and activated Remote Record, you enter your username and password into the app to start using Remote Record.
On the Apple App Store some user reviews have complained that you need to also set it up via the Sky+'s Interactive menu, but this wasn't the case for me. The instructions were simple to follow and the service a breeze to activate.
Recording requests must be made at least 30 minutes before the start of the programme. Your Sky+ box must be connected to a phone line to work with the Sky+ iPhone app.
The Sky+ app currently can't activate a series link, which is a shame - but I'm sure this will be sorted in an update if the app proves popular.
