Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

Keeping track of personal information is a peculiarly modern concern. And Mamut Software has come up with an equally up-to-date solution. Mamut Home is an organisational tool designed to help you keep on top of all the elements in your life - from personal contacts, to details of savings and loans.

Keeping track of personal information is a peculiarly modern concern. And Mamut Software has come up with an equally up-to-date solution. Mamut Home is an organisational tool designed to help you keep on top of all the elements in your life - from personal contacts, to details of savings and loans.

There are three versions of Home. We looked at the free edition, which is split into three elements: Family, Loans and savings, and House. The £29 Home Start iteration adds two further sections - Car, boat and motorbike, and Travel and leisure - while if you shell out £39 Home Standard adds Diet and fitness, should that be your thing.

To get started with Home Free you have to input your family details, following an onscreen wizard. Each family member can have their own section of the database to store information. This can include everything from medical history
to important anniversaries.

You can access the different elements of the software by clicking on the Mamut Home folder in the lefthand window. For each one you are prompted to use the wizard to fill in the relevant details.

The detail is incredible. For example, when you add a house you are asked to provide the dimensions of each room. In the vehicles section it asks for chassis numbers. But if you are organised enough to note such things, do you even need Home?

Mamut Home Free is easy to use and has a clear interface. If you are organised and you need a place to store all your vital information, this is the perfect tool. But for the rest of us this program would probably only serve to highlight how haphazard we are, as we couldn't lay our hands on the details we were meant to be recording in the first place.
