The sign of a good security package is that you barely notice it – it runs in the background unobtrusively, prompting you to make decisions as seldom as possible. This is the beauty of BitDefender 9.0 Professional Plus – you wouldn't know it was there.
It offers good protection and there's one or two safeguards to give the novice peace of mind. Firstly, the assurance that your antivirus program will be updated automatically every hour. Secondly, two years of free upgrades to the package – more than you get from other internet security programs.
Professional Plus consists of four elements: an antivirus program, a firewall, antispam and antiphishing protection. It's easy to install and the interface is welcoming – you don't have to spend long looking for settings that you wish to adjust.
You can get more than one licence for BitDefender, too – ideal if you've got a couple of PCs on a home network and want some cohesive protection. What you won't be able to do, however, is adjust the BitDefender configuration of one PC from the other. You'll just have to deal with one system at a time.
You can also create an emergency bootable CD just in case your PC gets infected. With the protection Professional Plus offers this should never happen, but it always pays to be prepared.
There's a reassuringly thick manual included in the box – normally manuals this size have a tiny section in English and then repeat the same information in 37 other languages. But this one explains everything about the package and how it works in detail, and it does so in terms that even beginners will understand.
