If you play a lot of games at home then you might find the following scenario familiar. You're itching to play Dungeon Siege II, for example, but when you try to fire it up, your PC tells you that the wrong disc is in the drive. Opening up your CD drive you find that Mum's been playing Scrabble again and, what's more, she seems to have mislaid your precious DSII disc.

This is exactly the kind of problem VirtualDrive 9.0 from Orlogix has been designed to prevent. By eliminating the need to actually have the original disc in the drive to play the game you want, you'll save yourself time booting up your favourite titles - not to mention crawling around on the floor, looking through jewel cases. That's the theory, anyway.

Many of you will by now be thinking of the opportunities that this offers to software pirates, but if the original discs have been properly protected by the vendor this will not be an issue.

And it works very well - the installation is quick and painless and creating the virtual drives is easy as pie. We can particularly see the benefits this program would bring to notebook users who actually work on the move - you won't have to ask the person next to you on the bus if they would mind moving while you open up the CD drive.

It's easy to see how VirtualDrive could be used for purposes that are less than honest, but it's not up to Orlogix to counteract this - the original software vendor is responsible for protecting its products. VirtualDrive is simple to use and install and will save you time if you're the type of user who is constantly engaging your optical drive.
