Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition

£80 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Sony Creative Software

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

No other home video-editing software combines ease of use with stability in the same way as Sony’s latest offering, Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition.

Creating easy-to-use video editing software is never an easy job and yet so many people own a home video camera and would like a way to make watchable movies. Apple has done an admirable job for Mac users in the shape of the inimitably easy to use iMovie, but PC users haven’t been so fortunate. Pinnacle Studio has had a good stab at it, and Premiere Elements does much to bring high end features to a low end market, but neither combines ease of use with stability in the same way as Sony’s latest offering, Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition. Click here for reviews of all the latest video-editing software packages.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition is the top of Sony's home video-editing range, offering something to please everyone. While the target audience is clearly intermediate users, there are plenty of easy-to-follow tutorials and Show me buttons ready to ease a novice user into the software gently.

High end users, on the other hand, may be interested in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition's improved support for HD video editing.

By opting for the more expensive Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition package you get extras which include HD video editing, so now you get support for both HDV and Sony AVCHD, 5.1 surround sound mixing and encoding, direct export to Sony PSP, plus loads of video and audio effects to play around with, including the addition of NewBlue Effects for really professional video effects.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition's advanced colour-correction tools make it easy to restore video, by eliminating washed out footage or enhancing specific colours, and human errors (created by a poor camera setup or lighting) can be corrected as well.

The working area is a little cluttered, which may be offputting to beginners, but once you get the hang of it Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition's powerful features mean that making professional videos is perfectly straightforward.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum Edition comes with DVD Architect 4.5 software as an added bonus, which provides a solid DVD-authoring tool with 44 themes to get you started as well as more tutorials to explain how everything works.
