Purchase Allume MediaRecover and you should never again lose important files.

With film cameras, there was always a second bite of the cherry if you lost your prints – the negatives. Sadly, this safety net is denied to digital camera users. If you accidentally delete or, even worse, format your camera's memory card then your memories become history. Which is why there's no end of data recovery tools available to help you get back your trashed Jpegs - including Allume MediaRecover.

Allume MediaRecover is a reasonably priced data-recovery tool, and one that runs fine under Vista.

Allume MediaRecover's slightly odd user interface is easy enough to follow because it is, in essence, wizard-led. You point it at the damaged flash memory device (or hard disk for that matter) and tell it to scan.

MediaRecover locates the deleted files and, by default, recovers them to Drive C:. It does this quite rapidly. Allume MediaRecover takes a while longer to recover files from a formatted card, because it has to look at every 'sector' – on a 2GB SD card that can take around an hour to complete.

And, yes, Allume MediaRecover successfully recovered images from the formatted card. Recovery is eased by the various preview options – you can examine the image as well as ASCII and hex dumps. Other tools let you recover data from a corrupted memory card and securely delete files.

Plenty of free undelete software will undelete deleted image files, but Allume MediaRecover's additional recovery tools make it worth checking out. If it recovers just one precious pic it'll have paid for itself.
