Xerox WorkCentre 3325 review

£475 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Xerox

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

The Xerox WorkCentre 3325 is a monochrome laser printer with added scan and fax to make a multifunction device.

The Xerox WorkCentre 3325 is the copy company’s latest top-of-the-range mono laser multifunction printer for small business. It combines the full set of print, copy, scan, fax and email modes.

You can usually spot a Xerox printer from its distinctive blue and cream exterior, with the blue highlighting the keypad area. While the colours are easy on the eye, these 'table' style designs seem unnecessarily bulky on top, especially when this class of printer is intended to have a small footprint.

Although the base of the Xerox WorkCentre 3325 occupies a relatively compact space of 469 x 458 x 447mm, the fixed jutting out display panel hampers the retrieval of pages from the output tray below. The text-only display screen is bright and clear but the role of some of the button icons is less obvious and may have you referring to the unprinted PDF manual.

Storage, on the other hand, is plentiful with a 50-sheet A4 Auto Document Feeder on top, a 250-sheet input tray at the bottom and a further 50-sheet Bypass tray (for less conventional paper and envelopes) that folds down from the front.

Even further expansion is possible as an optional 520-sheet tray can be added, although it will cost you an extra £194.40.

One basic annoyance, however, is that the basic input tray will only fit A4 sheets after you've slightly extended the paper length guide at the back. The Bypass tray above also feels a little rickety.

Connectivity is covered by ethernet, USB and unspecified Wi-Fi, and there's a USB memory stick port discretely tucked under the right side of the keypad.

It’s worth noting that duplex comes as the default setting for the ADF and the 600MHz processor ensures faster work flow. You're looking at up to 36ppm for standard prints and 20ppm for duplex, with document copies managing 15ppm.

Print quality for text is universally clean and solid but as soon as you move to copies, graphics darken considerably and there's some evidence of banding. Scans, by contrast, are marginally paler and softer than the originals.

When it comes to ink costs, the standard 5000-page toner translates to 1.94p per page, with the High Capacity 11,000-page version offering a slightly cheaper rate of 1.68p per page.

The Xerox WorkCentre 3325 also comes with 2GB of on-board storage which is useful if you want to store stacks of e-mails and faxes.
