An inexpensive PC graphics card which can attain respectable framerates, the Asus EN8500GT Silent is a decent solution.
Most users would consider the MSI NX8600GT T2D256E Overclocked pretty cheap, but there are some even less expensive options – including the Asus EN8500GT Silent.
On specifications alone, the Asus EN8500GT Silent is some way behind the 8600s. Like those cards, it has 256MB of RAM, but it uses the older (and slower) DDR2 memory rather than DDR3. The memory interface is still 128bit, but the core and memory clock speeds are unspectacular. The number of stream processors (a not-so-sweet 16) also lags behind the 8600s.
In our games tests, the Asus EN8500GT Silent struggled to hit the 30fps (frames per second) mark – an absolute minimum for smooth gameplay – even at a resolution of 1,024x768.
However, if you're prepared to cut down on the level of detail, you could get comfortable framerates with the Asus EN8500GT Silent. And given the low price, that's not bad at all.
