Sapphire X1600 Pro HDMI

£95 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Sapphire

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

The Pro features a high-definition multimedia interface, and could be a great addition to an HD enthusiast's front room.

This review appears in the January 2007 issue of PC Advisor, available now in all good newsagents.

This is the only card we looked at to feature an HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface), complete with HDCP (high-definition copy protocol) compliance. Thus it serves as a great partner to an HD plasma or LCD TV capable of producing a 1,080p or 'true HDTV' resolution. Sapphire has thrown in an HDMI cable too. Other connections include a VGA (video graphics adapter) and an audio SPDIF (Sony/Philips digital interface).

The rest of the bundle is typical Sapphire, including its ubiquitous game disc that allows users to try up to four games and unlock one full version. It's a fairly uninspiring selection, but at least a copy of PowerDVD 6.0 is thrown in.

With an RV530 GPU at its core, the Pro was never going to set the world alight. However, with 256MB of 800MHz DDR2 memory, it produces a reasonable performance – if some way off the pace of the others. The Pro could be a great addition to an HD enthusiast's front room, with its quiet cooling and HDMI connectivity.
