Back in the day, a sub-£100 graphics card was a sure sign you were scraping the bottom of the gaming barrel – but you get much more for your money nowadays. The GeForce 6800 GS cards have been flirting with the £100 mark for some months, and ATI has blown a huge hole through that milestone with the X1650 Pro.
Essentially an ever so slightly tweaked X1600 XT, the Pro offers plenty of gaming power, considering its meagre price tag.
The 128bit memory interface isn't stunning, but the core and memory clock speeds (600MHz and 700MHz respectively) are fairly impressive. The card doesn't require an extra power connector, so it'll fit nicely into machines with quite lowly specifications.
You're not going to get visual fireworks from this card, but it was a better performer than its nearest rival, the GeForce 7600 GS, across a range of games. It can't keep up with the 7600 GT, but cards featuring that chip cost almost twice as much again.
