Creative Live Cam Voice

£65 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Creative

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

Despite its lauded audio options and Adaptive Array Microphone technology, we can't help thinking that the Creative Live doesn't represent much of a leap forward.

This review appears in the November 06 issue of PC Advisor, available now in all good newsagents.

Despite its lauded audio options and Adaptive Array Microphone technology – which removes background noise for maximum clarity in conversation – we can't help thinking that, besides a cheaper price tag, the Creative Live doesn't represent much of a leap forward from the Logitech QuickCam Fusion we reviewed ten months ago.

Sure, it's got an extra megapixel on its image capture quality, but this is achieved through software interpolation. Video quality is like-for-like, and there's still some unwanted noise in images and video.

But what did impress us was the software bundle. Besides a photo manager and calendar, you can carry out advanced tasks such as remote monitoring and motion detection, use your computer as a video phone and adds effects to your videos. Hardly professional, but still great fun.

As webcams go, this is a good stab. With its excellent audio capabilities, the Cam Voice should be viewed as a microphone with a camera rather than a camera with a mic. It's far from perfect, but the technology is gradually getting there. And did we mention it's Skype-certified? That's sure to make you rush out and buy one.

It doesn't matter how hard you try; when you sit down in front of a webcam you end up looking like you’ve been dragged through a hedge 50 or 60 times on a very hot day. Well, Logitech is doing its best to remedy this situation with the QuickCam Fusion.
