Imation Pivot Flash Drive

£15-£130 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Imation

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

USB flash drives are the height of convenience. Unfortunately, they're also extremely easy to lose – and just about anyone can access the contents of an unprotected drive with little fuss.

Scoring high marks for simplicity of use, portability and relatively large storage capacities, USB flash drives are the height of convenience. Unfortunately, they're also extremely easy to lose. Just about anyone can access the contents of an unprotected flash drive with little fuss.

Imation intends to kill both birds with one finely crafted stone: the Pivot flash drive. It comes with a built-in keychain, so you've got no excuse for not keeping it attached to something that's rather harder to lose.

More importantly, the Pivot comes with 128bit AES (Advanced Encryption Software) and password protection, which is all but impossible for even the best hackers to crack. If you do misplace the Pivot, you can at least rest safe in the knowledge that its contents are safe from prying eyes.

Inevitably you pay more for such features. For the £15 Imation is asking for the 256MB Pivot, you could actually get a 512MB or even 1GB drive without the special features. The £130 4GB version seems particularly expensive.
