EIZO EV2436W-FS review - Eco-friendly, ergonomic and sturdy office display

£410 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Eizo

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

The Eizo FlexScan EV2436W-FS is a 24in IPS LED panel boasting a Full HD 1920x1200 resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio. Here's PC Advisor's EIZO EV2436W-FS review.

The EIZO EV2436W-FS display has a 6ms grey-to-grey response time. It weighs 6.7kg with the FlexStand attached -- a smaller TriStand is also available which lightens the net weight by 1.4kg -- the monitor spans 55.3x35.8x5.7cm and provides a crisp colour pallet with 10-bit colour processing, meaning there are 1024 red, green and blue tones rather than the 256 primary colour tones you get from a typical LCD 8-bit display. The EIZO EV2436W-FS's design isn't beautiful. This 24in display is made from a hard, sturdy plastic that doesn't spark a lot of interest, however the need for an aesthetically appealing monitor would probably only affect a small minority. See also: Group test: what's the best budget LCD display?

The FlexStand extends a fair way back from the rear of the display, leaving little room for those with small office spaces, however the screen is able to switch from horizontal to vertical, tilts smoothly forward and back and moves securely up and down.

While the display's rear isn't attractive, it does feature a slim bezel design. The monitor's surrounding frame is a small 15mm at the top and bottom and a few millimetres larger on the sides.

EIZO EV2436W-FS: connectivity

Eizo's monitor has a number of inputs available to both the Mac and PC user, with two downstream USB 2.0 ports, one upstream USB port, a D-Sub port, a DVI-D port, a DisplayPort, an Audio In port and a 3.5mm headphones jack. An adapter is required for Mac users using the D-Sub, DisplayPort or DVI-D ports.

The monitor's display feels quite big and detailed -- when working at our desk we didn't notice pixels or any sign of ghosting and with a grey-to- grey response time of 6ms, the display handles media very well.

The FlexScan EV range was designed to conserve power, with features such as EcoView Optimizer 2 -- which reduces the displays power consumption by 30 percent by lowering the backlight brightness -- and EcoView Sense 2, which switches the monitor into safe mode when inactive for a short period of time.

There are five display modes available for users to choose from, besides the preset paper, movie and sRGB options -- there are two user modes available to be adjusted and saved to the users preference.

There is also a power switch under the display that halts any power consumption and also a standby button at the front of the display for short-time breaks in use.

EIZO EV2436W-FS: speakers

The internal 1-watt speakers are situated at the bottom of the monitor, with the volume controls (which are also the brightness buttons) residing at the front of the display beside a standby button.

The cable clip at the back of the monitor is badly positioned. It is designed to keep your cables neat and tidy, yet with the positioning of the input ports, the clip restricts any sizeable horizontal movement of the display and switching the display from horizontal to vertical.

The carrying handle on the back of the monitor is also poorly positioned. Rather than lifting the monitor as a whole, the handle-placed at the top of the display-jerks the display to its highest position. If users wish to carry the monitor, they should raise the screen slowly beforehand to its highest point then use the handle.
