It measures 70x18x30mm and will easily fit in the palm of your hand. The Logitech C270 is ideal for someone that doesn’t want to ruin the aesthetics of their laptop or monitor but still wants a full-functional webcam.
The head of the Logitech C270 webcam can be tilted in several directions for optimal viewing. The clip that hold the camera in place has been designed to fit any laptop or monitor. Unlike some of the webcams we tried out, the device felt robust and secure.
It was also very easy to install the Logitech C270 webcam. Logitech provides dedicated webcam software for your PC that auto-launched when the webcam is required.
The device comes bundled with Logitech’s own video-calling software, Vid HD. However, the Logitech C270 is also compatible with Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger. You can call friends on any of these services. When you first set up the C270 it scans your hard drive to detect any of these compatible programs and then adds a shortcut to the webcam’s start window.
The Logitech C270 HD Webcam captures video at a resolution of up to 1280x720 and 30 frames per second (fps) while still images are captured at 3Mp. The footage captured by the webcam was smooth with no pixellation. However, colours looked slightly washed-out. The built-in microphone with Logitech’s RightSound technology picked up the sound clearly and it was not distorted by background noise.
You can choose between capturing video and still images in standard or widescreen mode. Turn on the Logitech C270's‘Follow my face’ function to ensure your face is the main subject of the image at all times. You also turn on or off Logitech’s RightLight technology, which optimises the image in poorly-lit conditions.
Logitech also offer users of the Logitech C270 HD Webcam the chance to download photo and video-editing software from Magix for free so they can tweak their imagers and videos.
