The Street Party Revolve from gear4 is the latest iPod/iPhone speaker from the audio accessories company.
As well as allowing users to listen to content stored on their Apple iPod or Apple iPhone through its stereo speakers, while charging the device, the Street Party Revolve features a novel swivelling dock that ensures you digital audio device can be positioned securely in both portrait and landscape orientation.
The sleek black speaker is lighter and smaller than we expected. Measuring 100x35x215mm, it’s ideal for taking on holiday or to the park.
We found it was very easy to use. Simply slide the dock adaptor for your device onto the top of the swivelling dock and then slide your iPod/iPhone in, ensuring it slotted over the dock.
Then we turned the speaker on using the power button on the top of the Street Party Revolve. The speaker just hast volume and on and off controls. If you want to play, pause and skip tracks or videos, you’ll need to resort to the controls on your iPod or iPhone.
The sound was crisp and clear, while the volume controls on the dock enabled us to crank up the sound, making it ideal for a party in the garden.
It was also very easy to swivel the dock to re-position the digital audio device in landscape format, which according to gear4, will offer a better viewing experience when watching video stored on or streamed to the device. To rotate your phone or digital music device, simply expand the speaker and push the device to the left then contract the speaker.
The expand and contract mechanism that keeps the iPod or iPhone snuggly in place was sturdy and strong and could certainly withstand anyone who’s a little heavy handed, like your reviewer.
We found the device was held securely in place when rotated, meaning we could comfortable watch video on it.
The speaker can be powered by mains, and when it is, it will charge your iPhone or iPod. However, it can also be powered by four AAA batteries when being used on the go. However, it won’t charge your digital audio device when powered this way.
It also comes with five adaptors to ensure various generation of iPhone and iPod are held securely in position. The iPod Shuffle is the only generation the speaker is not compatible with.
Furthermore, a line in connector ensures other MP3 player and audio devices can be used with the speaker.
