The Epson SX400 is a sleek all-in-one printer/scanner with a neat design and a glossy black casing.
The Epson SX400's 2.5in pop-up LCD screen can be adjusted to get the best viewing angle.
As well as printing straight from a PC, the Epson SX400 supports four types of memory card, the contents of which can be previewed and selected on screen. We used the navigation buttons to adjust print quantity, quality and size before printing.
Epson provides PictBridge support, too, so you can connect your camera directly to the Epson SX400, although the USB cable itself is not supplied.

More previewing and editing options are offered by the Epson SX400's printer driver dialog menus if you print photos stored on your PC. These include additional quality settings, red-eye removal and colour profiles.
As with the Epson S20 photo inkjet, with the Epson SX400 you can print items at sizes ranging from A6 (6x4in) to A4, while scanning and photocopying can be done at resolutions up to 1,200dpi.
An A4 print of our test photo took 15 seconds on draft quality, 28 seconds at Epson's standard quality and two minutes and 45 seconds on the Epson SX400's Best setting. Using Epson's Premium Glossy Photo Paper – £11.87 for 15 sheets – it took three minutes and 17 seconds.
While the print on the premium paper looked superior with bright, vivid colours, some of the skin tones did look slightly patchy. All four of the Epson SX400's prints were touch dry immediately.
