Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser

£160 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Logitech

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

The looks of the ultra-thin, angular keyboard and detached MediaPad, though stunning, are not what makes this combo irresistible.

The looks of the ultra-thin, angular keyboard and detached MediaPad, though stunning, are not what makes this combo irresistible.

Neither is it the MX Laser mouse, though capable of capturing 5.8Mp (megapixels) of detail per second and tracking faster than the speed of sound. It's not even the mighty Bluetooth 2.0 that tickles our fancy - and it's certainly not the massive price tag. In fact, what we love about Logitech's diNovo Media Desktop Laser is the fact that it's the ultimate tool for office timewasting.

Its detachable MediaPad feature, aka SkivePad, is similar to the numberpad at the end of your average keyboard, supposing it had been hacked off and given an LCD screen. Actually, it does work as a numberpad - and a calculator, too - but really, it's a remote control, with the ability to inform you of any incoming messages and emails to your PC. What a stroke of (potentially distracting) genius!

Compatible with a host of popular media players, including Musicmatch, iTunes, Windows Media Player 10.0 and Winamp 5.0, the SkivePad lets you control your media files through a simple-to-use MediaLife interface, from up to 60 feet away, which could be great for presentations.

As a user-friendly experience, the diNovo takes a while to get to grips with because of its extensive functionality, so it's fortunate that a comprehensive help guide is included. We weren't entirely convinced by the all-important typing experience, particularly at speed - it's not as comfortable as a bigger keyboard - but if you don't have to type like the wind then this aesthetically pleasing board is a great option.

The diNovo Media Desktop Laser is a marvellous invention. Never have we seen such a fully featured digital media set embedded in a keyboard for quick access. Prepare to splash serious cash, though - and buy some backup batteries because this will drain your supply.
