Our Rating: We rate this 4.5 out of 5

Like it or not, making telephone calls over the internet is the future. If you're content to use your old-fashioned BT line to get in touch with cousin Mabel in Sydney, fine. But you're paying too much.

Like it or not, making telephone calls over the internet is the future. If you're content to use your old-fashioned BT line to get in touch with cousin Mabel in Sydney, fine. But you're paying too much.

This is because with internet telephony, you can pay absolutely nothing for your calls. Okay, you'll pay a fee for calling landlines, but if you persuade your friends and family to join the service as well, you don't pay a penny, once you've made the initial outlay on setting up.

Which brings us to the Internet Phone Wizard from Actiontec, a tool that allows you to make internet and normal calls from the same phone. It's easy to get set up – we had it done in five minutes flat – and the quick setup guide tells you everything you need to get it working. When the phone rings a light will tell you whether it's an internet or normal call you are receiving.

Simple to set up and works exactly as it should – who can argue with that? We reckon someone will knock one out for less, but in the meantime, this is a good buy.
