Oki C5750n colour laser printer review

£575 inc VAT

Manufacturer: OKI

Our Rating: We rate this 3.5 out of 5

Despite being the cheapest of Oki's new C5750 and C5950 business colour laser printers, the Oki C5750n comes with a fairly significant £575 asking price. However, this printer does come armed with some impressive specifications.

Despite being the cheapest of Oki's new C5750 and C5950 business colour laser printers, the Oki C5750n comes with a fairly significant £575 asking price. However, this printer does come armed with some impressive specifications.

The Oki C5750n is, of course, network ready, and an enhanced version, the C5750dn, comes with an automatic duplexer (for flawless printing to both sides of the paper). You can buy the duplex unit as an optional extra for the basic Oki C5750n, but it'll set you back an extra £174 – as opposed to just £117 extra for the C5750dn.

In fact, the Oki C5750n is rich in expansion capabilities. The basic 300 sheet paper tray can be boosted with an optional 530 sheet tray (giving you a potential 830 sheets in all) for an extra £174.

Other extras include memory, and the standard 256MB can be stretched to 768MB for an extra £222. The Oki C5750n is a large robust looking machine. The control panel is perhaps a little more basic than we might expect at this price, although the important facilities are catered for, and the LCD screen gives you some useful pieces of information – letting you know exactly where you are in the print job, for instance.

But what of the specifications themselves? Well, the Oki C5750n comes with a claimed 32 pages per minute (ppm) in mono. In contrast to inkjets, laser manufacturers tend to be more truthful when it comes to the difference between quoted and realworld figures.

However, in our tests the Oki C5750n managed just 22.2ppm. Given that the likes of the Brother HL-4040CN can produce 16.2ppm while costing almost half the price, we expected slightly more from the performance of the Oki C5750n.

The Oki C5750n isn't a whole lot faster on colour either, and the realworld figure of 11.1ppm is only half that of the quoted figure of 22ppm.

  • Build Quality: We give this item 8 of 10 for build quality
  • Features: We give this item 8 of 10 for features
  • Value for Money: We give this item 6 of 10 for value for money
  • Overall: We give this item 7 of 10 overall

The Oki C5750n has good options and would fit in beautifully in a typical office environment. However, the speed isn't quite as good as you might expect given the quoted figures, and we'd ideally want this printer to be falling below the £500 mark before we'd consider it value for money.
