Pros: Portable, good backup software included
Cons: Lower capacity than ordinary desktop drives

Admittedly, the Seagate Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition is a more expensive option than an ordinary desktop driver, but you can buy a desktop version of the OneTouch at £120 for 500GB.

The ‘OneTouch’ button on the front of the Seagate Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition can be programmed to automatically perform a backup as soon as you press it, or you can set it to ‘sync’ a set of files so that it only updates files that have changed since your last backup.

The Seagate Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition even has a ‘historical’ backup feature – a bit like Leopard’s Time Machine – that lets you restore files as they were on a specific date in the past. So while it’s a bit pricey, the Seagate Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition is versatile enough to justify its price.
