Asus EN9800GT HybridPower review

£126.72 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Asus

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

With flashes of sparkling yellow, the Asus EN9800GT HybridPower is a solid-performer of a graphics card that makes light of its budget model status.

With flashes of sparkling yellow, the Asus EN9800GT HybridPower is a solid-performer of a graphics card that makes light of its budget model status.

The Asus EN9800GT HybridPower's cooling fan is elegant, yet manages to be sufficiently powerful to efficiently suck enough heat away from a sizzling GPU. The Asus EN9800GT HybridPower even houses support for HybridPower, nVidia's green feature that can switch off the graphics card altogether when 3D processing isn't required.

The Asus EN9800GT comes installed with a GeForce 9800 GT chip and 512MB of GDDR3 memory. This particular combination and the limit of 112 stream processors seems rather paltry on a card costing nearly £150.

Elsewhere, however, the Asus EN9800GT HybridPower is well provisioned. The 256bit bus is a must at this price point, and this works well with the memory clock speed of 1,800MHz. Together they conjure up a memory bandwidth of 57.6GBps - pretty good, but eclipsed by the slightly more expensive Gigabyte HD 4850.

The problem with the Asus EN9800GT HybridPower is that, while it pretty much satisfies its performance brief, it never looks like excelling. It's very much mid table in terms of raw speed for graphics cards at this price point.
