Packard Bell EasyNote TX86 GO-035UK review

£549 inc VAT

Manufacturer: Packard Bell

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

Packard Bell's TX86 justifies its £549 price tag with impressive performance, attractive styling and long battery life.

The Packard Bell EasyNote TX86 GO-035UK justifies its £549 price tag with impressive performance, attractive styling and long battery life.

Packard Bell EasyNote TX86 GO-035UK's metallic 'Arctic Silver' finish extends to the interior. It also has an arctic silver keyboard and a large illuminated trackpad that pulses and glows during use. A dedicated wireless on/off switch is accompanied by a user-programmable quick-access key and a row of touch-sensitive media controls.

At only 22mm thick, the 15.6in-screen Packard Bell EasyNote TX86 GO-035UK is also pleasingly slim. It's fairly light at 2.4kg.

This model is near-identical to the £699 Packard Bell EasyNote TX86, but it comes without that laptop's discrete nVidia GeForce 310M graphics chip. Instead relying on the integrated graphics of its 2.27GHz Intel Core i5-430M processor, this EasyNote delivered 11fps in our Fear test at 'Maximum' settings versus its costlier sibling's 34fps. At 'Medium' detail it scored 31fps.

Aside from games, system performance was excellent. Our WorldBench 6 real-world speed test rewarded the Packard Bell EasyNote TX86 GO-035UK with a 104-point score.

For easy connectivity, a pair of USB 2.0 ports is provided on both left and right sides of the laptop. VGA and HDMI ports are also found on the left, which makes connecting peripherals easier but results in more messy cabling on the desktop.

Given its strong WorldBench performance, the Packard Bell's long battery life was especially pleasing. The Packard Bell EasyNote TX86 GO-035UK lasted 5 hours 20 minutes in our tests. The £669 version lasted longer still, with its slightly higher-capacity battery pack (48Wh versus 44Wh) lasting 5 hrs 36 mins.
