The Samsung R60 Plus is the only laptop we've seen in the sub-£400 category to feature a dedicated graphics processor, making it the most suitable for 3D gaming.
The Samsung R60 Plus is finished in glossy black, with textured matte black plastic under the lid.
Its fast 250GB hard drive, which is configured out of the box as two equal-sized partitions, dwarfs those of its rivals. Powering the Samsung R60 Plus is another example of Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, running at a useful 1.66GHz speed.
Together with 2GB of RAM, this setup achieved a WorldBench 6 real-world speed score of 70 points, making the Samsung R60 Plus pretty fast for an inexpensive Vista laptop.
The Samsung boasts an ATI Radeon X1250 graphics card fitted with 128MB
of video RAM. The Samsung R60 Plus recorded a relatively unimpressive 7fps (frames per second) framerate in our Fear tests at maximum quality settings. At minimum quality settings it scored an excellent 94fps, however.
Build quality is good, and the Samsung R60 Plus feels solid and able to withstand the occasional knock. The trackpad action is pleasing, and the mouse button has a reassuringly light but positive action.
Battery life is less encouraging. In our tests the Samsung R60 Plus came in at only two hours and 15 minutes.
