Lexmark C510

We often wonder how manufacturers come up with the print speeds they claim their printers can achieve, as they don't seem to bear much resemblance to the output rate we get out of them in our tests. Imagine our surprise, then, when we found that the Lexmark C510 could print 26 pages of text per minute - just four less than Lexmark claimed. Believe us, normally the discrepancy is far greater.

What makes the performance of the C510 all the more pleasing is the fact that the results are breathtaking. The quality of both monochrome and colour prints really blew us away.

Setting up the Lexmark wasn't too difficult despite the lack of paperwork. The toner cartridges all fit in snugly, and there are helpful diagrams on the unit itself. The driver installation also ran smoothly and swiftly. The major problem we encountered was getting the thing out of the box - it's 30kg, so you're going to need to get a friend to help.

When printing monochrome text the Lexmark outputs the first page in just 10 seconds and the results are sharp and clear. When it comes to printing in colour, though, the Lexmark really comes into its own.

The first page of a PowerPoint presentation took 21 seconds to print and the quality was quite astonishing. The colours were bright and vibrant and the detail was absolutely superb. With more complicated graphics, the results were just as impressive.

It's compatible with a whole host of operating systems including Windows, Mac, Linux, and Unix. The 250-sheet input and output trays are a decent size and the running costs aren't too bad either at 1.3p per page of mono and 2.2p per page of colour.
