Edimax's latest wireless router uses Mimo (multiple input, multiple output) technology to deliver improved range and performance while maintaining compatibility with existing 802.11b and 802.11g equipment.
Designed to hook up to your existing broadband modem, it allows up to 253 users to share the connection and provides advanced features such as a sophisticated firewall and bandwidth management. Wired connections are also supported via its integral four-port 10/100 Base-T switch.
Surprisingly, the documentation makes no claims regarding performance. It's simply assumed that you know what Mimo is all about, and what it can do for you.
Likewise, the initial setup and built-in web-based interface is fast and simple to use for those that know what they're doing and aren't afraid of a little jargon. However, we've seen configuration utilities that are far easier than this for novice users.
To get the best performance from the router you'll need Mimo-capable wireless adapters in your client PCs. A compatible PCI card from Edimax costs £22, while the firm's Cardbus laptop adapter costs £20.
