Lexmark X4875 review

At 178x454x351mm, the Lexmark X4875 is at the larger end of the multifunction photo printer market, but it has a sleek design and contemporary colour scheme and, at 7.1kg, it's not the heaviest either.

We were impressed by the Lexmark X4875's features too. You can print from a PC and it offers support for SD, MMC, XD, MS and CF memory cards, plus the option to print straight from a digital camera via PictBridge.

The Lexmark X4875 also boasts USB and wireless connectivity, while scanning and copying facilities handle images up to 600x1,200dpi.

Once you've inserted a memory card, you can preview images on the Lexmark X4875's adjustable, pop-up 2.5in LCD display. Using the control keys, you can scroll through images, make simple edits on screen – brightness, image rotation and crop, red-eye removal – add border and colour effects, and change print size and quality.

However, when printing straight from the camera via the Lexmark X4875, the only editing functions you can access are those available on the camera itself.

Our test image took 28 seconds to print at A4 size on normal white paper in draft; at standard quality it took 1 min 1 sec, and 1 min 45 secs in best quality mode. Using the manufacturer's highest-quality settings on Lexmark's Premium Glossy Photo Paper – £14.99 per 50 sheets – an A4 print took three minutes and 42 seconds.

Images printed in best quality had the most vivid colours and on Lexmark's paper detail was clear and colours accurately portrayed.
