We weren’t impressed by Trend Micro Internet Security 2008’s malware-fighting, but its decent features and price put it in fifth place in our round-up.
Looking for dormant malware, Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 found a mediocre 90 percent; spyware and adware rates were sub-par and, when it came to heuristic detection, it caught just 13 percent.
Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 redeemed itself, however, with its strong malware cleanup showing, removing 70 percent of all files and Registry changes introduced by malicious infections. Only Norton did a better job at disinfection.

On top of a so-so antivirus engine, Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 offers the features you’d expect from a security suite: antispam, parental controls and antiphishing. Its firewall successfully hid the protected PC from outside scans, and it avoided unnecessary warnings when known programs attempted to access the internet.
But its parental controls fared poorly. If you enable the feature, the filters apply to everyone who uses the PC. Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 doesn’t prompt you to set a password, either. Leave it unprotected and any other user can open the program and turn off the controls.
Trend Micro Internet Security 2008's antispam tool adds buttons to Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Mail that let you label email as spam and approve or block specific senders. We were also impressed by its antiphishing feature.
Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 scored:
8.7 out of 10
I don't have to worry about viruses, I trust my PC is protected due to the automatic updates. Even the renewal process was simple.
I had problems when I replaced my computer in being able to transfer the license rights from one to another.
easy and effective
the licensing etc is very complex and confusing as is the pricing across several machines
