Pure Digital Move portable DAB radio

The Pure Move is a portable battery or mains-powered DAB radio is made of lightweight aluminium and has an attractive grille front. It sits back casually on a flat, U-shaped hinge and serves up crystal clear DAB radio stations without fuss.

There's a sturdy aerial and, where both are available, the Pure Move lets you choose between listening digitally or over FM.

Maker Pure says a full battery charge should see the Pure Move through up to 14 hours of listening, although DAB sucks power noticeably faster than regular FM use. The Pure Move isn't the most feature-packed digital radio, but this is about the best-looking battery-powered model we've seen and is among the lightest.

The Pure Move's volume cranks up higher than you might imagine for such a compact model and the resulting audio is very clean.

Assuming you don't need fancy frills such as being able to act as a speaker for a portable MP3 player or a hard disk or removable media on which to record and playback recorded programmes, the Pure Move is a solid choice.

We took a look at Pure Digital’s compact portable DAB radio over the summer and found ourselves favouring it as a music source to listen to while we tapped out copy over an MP3 player.

We’ve had a look at a couple of other battery-powered DAB radios and reckon the Pure Move is the best of the bunch in terms of practicality, portability and longevity.

As we all know, summer was a total wash-out, but on the few occasions when we were able to venture into the back garden, it was fantastic being able to listen to crystal clear Classic FM and other cut-above radio stations while enjoying a chilled Soave and catching up with the Sunday papers.

Not only that, but the Pure Move's auxiliary input means you can make use of its surprisingly loud single speaker to play music from other sources such as an iPod. It can connect up to a hi-fi for the same purpose, so even if you’re not in the mood for idle banter on the radio, you can enjoy your own music collection.

Once you’ve had enough of chilling out to Chill or head-banging along with Kerrang!, the Pure Move's telescopic aerial can be clipped back into the groove on top of Move and the rubberised but sturdy stand stashed back into its recess round the back.

Good Points

A great DAB, works well with great reception and very long battery life - pretty much goes all week and then needs a long charge. Small enough to take where you want and big enough to reproduce great sound quality.

Bad Points

Charge time is higher than expected - but needs doing only infrequently.

Good Points

AT LAST A PORTABLE DAB RADIO WITH SUPERB BATTERY LIFE, THE BUILT IN POWER PACK REMOVES THE HASSLE OF BATTERIES, EXCELLENT RECEPTION AND SOUND, QUALITY PRODUCT.

Bad Points

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE AN ALARM FACILITY, A LITTLE EXPENSIVE BUT OVERALL NO MAJOR NEGATIVES.
