Fujifilm FinePix F200 EXR review

Product Code: P10NC01290A

Fujifilm uses new Super CCD EXR technology with its F200EXR compact camera, increasing resolution and its ability to work in low-light conditions.

FujiFilm's FinePix F200EXR is a 12Mp compact camera featuring five preset modes and two manual modes. These allow the user to have full control over the FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR's settings, including shutter speed and aperture.

Measuring 94x55x20mm, we find a sleek black design with silver accents, a large 3in LCD screen and a 5x optical zoom. There's no separate viewfinder on the FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR, so the display serves to compose images.

For first time users or those needing a simple point-and-shoot, teh FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR's Auto mode is ideal. The FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR adjusts everything automatically, leaving the user free to concentrate on composing the image. You can specify whether you want to take a close-up shot, as well as turn the flash to auto, on or off, use red-eye reduction - and even display a grid on the screen, to make composition even easier.

In Auto mode, we found the FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR fast enough to take images without delay. In our tests, colours came out sharp and vivid. We were also impressed with skin tones, which looked correct in almost every light. According to Fujifilm, the FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR features technology to reduce blur caused by camera shake in low light. We found this worked well even on a particularly rowdy night out in a London bar.

The FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR also benefits from intelligent face detection, which allows it to detect faces and set the focus and exposure accordingly. We found this all worked well, providing subjects were looking directly at the camera. It was less successful if people were side-on, particularly if they were close to the edge of the frame. Using this technology on the FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR didn't slow down capture speed.

The FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR also benefits from EXR technology, said to optimise settings for the subject while improving clarity, reducing noise and enhancing dynamic range. Other modes include a Natural and Flash mode to take the best image possible in poor lighting. In this mode, each time the shutter is pressed the camera captures two images; one without flash and one with. We loved this mode as it gave us two options to choose from, allowing us to pick the best possible image every time.

We were also impressed by the Scene Position mode of the FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR that allows you to choose pre-optimised settings depending upon conditions, such as fireworks or a beach. In particular, the portrait enhancer option in Scene Position mode, which smoothes out skin tones, worked well to render skin smooth and almost always blemish free.

The FujiFilm FinePix F200EXR can also capture video with sound in AVI format, at either 640x480 or 320x240 pixels at 30fps. It was easy to capture video using the camera and the results were clear and sharp.

Good Points

For a multi-function this compact camera has features that are not only easy to use but are usually reserved for the more expensive single lense reflex cameras. It is as the name implies compact with the convenience of being pocket sized. It is ideal for the novice with the added attributes and versatility for that of the professional user. The sturdy build of this camera leaves little to be desired by the user. It's a big one hundred and ten per cent yes for this camera and it's engineering. Sincerely pleased with the usage and the result quality.

Bad Points

There are no gimmicks with the camera, but a small protective carrying case would be an additional asset for a making this great product . . . perfection.
