CyberPower Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3 review

With Intel’s older E8500 chip inside, the CyberPower Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3 could have been left behind by the competition. But this desktop PC has a secret weapon. By using faster (and considerably more expensive) DDR3 RAM, CyberPower hopes to recover some of the performance lost to Intel’s brand-new E8600 chip.

In our tests, this action plan didn’t yield stunning results. The CyberPower Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3 scored 119 points in our WorldBench 6 real-world speed test – a score just one point above the slowest of this month’s budget machines. The computer’s HD 4870 graphics card also turned in slightly disappointing scores in our gaming tests.

Still, the DDR3 RAM isn’t the only trick up the CyberPower Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3’s sleeve. Its Coolermaster Dominator 690 case is a well-built, spacious and feature-packed model, with excellent airflow potential. Five 5.25in and five 3.5in drive bays are provided.

Support for Crossfire technology means it’s possible to add a second graphics card to the CyberPower Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3 later on, and the 780W Hiper power supply is powerful enough to accommodate this.

Sadly, only a single 500GB hard drive is fitted and memory expansion will be tricky: the CyberPower Gamer Infinity XT Ultimate DDR3’s 4GB allocation is supplied in four 1GB sticks. Neither is a standalone sound card supplied, and the speakers are a simple 2.1-channel set.

A 22in Hanns-G display and Blu-ray drive complete the package.
