£751-£1,000 PCs chart: Zoostorm 4-6405 Advanced PC

£999 inc VAT

Manufacturer: PCNextDay

Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

This new entry from Zoostorm doesn’t quite top the chart but, in fairness, there wasn’t a great deal to choose between the Top Five. The 4-6405 will certainly have its admirers – not least those who are swayed by a 22in display, a mighty size at this price point.

Fifth place

For our money, a good 19in flat-panel is a better bet. A larger screen’s superior resolution support is outweighed by the weaker colour palette and lack of sharpness in budget 22in models such as the Asus.

Elsewhere, the Zoostorm makes few mistakes, even if it rarely stands out. The Core 2 Duo E6600 is a popular choice in this category and 2GB of DDR RAM is ubiquitous. The 8800 GTS graphics card is only the 320MB version and the Zoostorm failed to keep up with similarly equipped PCs in our games tests. The 500GB hard drive is an impressive inclusion, however.

Sound is handled by an integrated controller – no match for the excellent Creative X-Fi cards found elsewhere – and the warranty is fairly short.

There's nothing especially wrong with the Zoostorm - although the 22in could be considered overkill - but you could do a lot better for the money.

£751-£1,000 PCs chart: Mesh Elite GTS Media

For plenty of PC buyers, screen size is everything. Such customers will be drawn to the Mesh Elite, whose 22in Mirai model is about as large as displays get at this price point.

  • £751-£1,000 PCs chart: CyberPower Infinity 860

£751-£1,000 PCs chart: CyberPower Infinity 860

The CyberPower Infinity 860 struggles to keep up with the leaders in this category despite housing the quickest CPU (central processing unit) in the Top Five – the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700.

£751-£1,000 PCs chart: Chillblast Fusion Raider 6600

Rather controversially, Chillblast has in the past used overclocking to boost its machines' performance scores, but the Fusion Raider 6600 resorts to no such tricks. Yet it still manages to achieve the highest benchmark figures in the £751-£1,000 PCs chart.

£751-£1,000 PCs chart: Evesham Solar Storm

It doesn't have any features that stand up and whack you across the head, but the Evesham Solar Storm is well put together. It seems to have carefully followed the £751-£1,000 PC blueprint for success.
