There's currently no shortage of competition in the 18-speed DVD writer market. This newcomer from LG is clearly ready for the challenge of a congested market.
LG has traditionally combined the strongest value for money with devastating DVD+R performance. That this is now only half-true is down to the incredibly competitive prices in the market.
The GSA-H22N offers sizzling pace. Besides the 18-speed DVD-R/+R playback, there are eight-speed double-layer facilities and 12-speed DVD-RAM. Many manufacturers have tried to sweep DVD-RAM under the carpet but, thankfully, it's still with us. The format's user-friendly simplicity almost makes up for its lack of raw performance.
The LG's DVD+R capabilities are second to none. However, it doesn't come with software, cables or screws, it's one of the more expensive drives available – by just a couple of quid, admittedly – and it can't match the superlative consistency of the Sony AW-G170A.
