PC Specialist Vanquish GT1

If you’re feeling a bit flush, then why not splash out on the fearsome Diablo Predator Z87 from Wired2Fire. At £1699 it’ls not cheap, but there’s no denying that this is a very fast gaming system. It also comes with some great gaming peripherals. See all gaming PCs.

Based on the 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5-4670K overclocked to 4.4 GHz, the Diablo Predator Z87 is equally matched with most of the competition when it comes to general computing tasks. The processor is cooled by a Corsair H100 liquid-cooling unit, which is a larger and more powerful version of the H60 and H55 models found elsewhere. Backed up with 16 GB of memory, a 1 TB hard disk and a roomy 240 GB Corsair Force LS SSD, this PC turned in an impressive 6974 points under PCMark7, just a few insignificant points behind Chillblast’s group-leading Fusion Uzi. This forms a strong foundation for the Diablo Predator’s secret weapon: a nVidia GTX 780 graphics card, featuring 50% more memory and considerably more processing power than the GTX 770 cards found in most of the less expensive PCs. Unsurprisingly, it came out well ahead in our gaming tests, proving that a fast graphics card is of greater benefit than overclocking or adding a Core i7 chip when it comes to building a fast gaming system.

The system is housed in a Corsair C70 gaming case, with a cool industrial-looking power switch, and a reset button tucked away behind a hinged plastic cover, which must be flipped out of the way to access the killswitch behind, making you feel like you’re ordering a nuclear strike. Our review sample was supplied in stealth black, but it’s also available in an eye-catching white or military green finish.

Two hinged handles are fixed to the top of the case, making it somewhat easier to pick up and lug around. Mirroring the design of the handles are four latches holding the side panel in place without the need for screws, allowing quick access to the insides which remain visible at all times through the tinted transparent window.

You’ll control your games using the Gigabyte K3 gaming keyboard and M6980X gaming mouse, the former featuring water-resistant keys. You’ll view them on the blisteringly fast AOC G2460PQU monitor, its 24-inch panel claiming a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time for the smoothest blur-free graphics available. It also comes with a height-adjustable stand for comfort during those long gaming sessions. At this price we would have hoped for a Blu-ray drive, but sadly a DVD burner is all we got.
