Powered by the 3.6 GHz Trinity A8-5600K, the Eclipse Precision A856F85 business PC features a different system architecture to most PCs, which use Intel chips. Take a look at Group test: What's the best office PC?
In raw performance terms, an A8-5600K can be expected to turn in results on a similar level to what could be achieved with an Intel Core i3-3220. However the quad-core AMD chip may have the advantage in non-office scenarios, such as when heavily multi-tasking or running multi-threaded applications.
In our tests, the PCMark 7 results from the Eclipse system were much lower at only 2349 points. This is also due its reliance on slow disk storage which drags speed compared to SSD-based systems. Eclipse has fitted a 1 TB Seagate Barracuda hard drive, which trades performance for capacity.
This lack of overall performance isn't noticeable most of the time, only becoming apparent when the PC is placed under unusually heavy loads. So it'll do just fine as a general basic-level office PC.
The external appearance of this PC will put off some business buyers. The K2 gamer case is finished in a relatively plain grey, but features angular textures and buttons which give it a look inspired by sci-fi film Transformers. The front fan lights up blue when in use – something that's really not needed in an office PC and which we feel is a step too far. It does feature a pair of handy front-facing USB 3.0 ports and audio jacks.
Inside, there's an unexpectedly bright red colour scheme, which you won't usually see as Eclipse has thankfully not supplied a transparent side panel. There are no tool-free drive bays or cable management features, but one free memory slot remains should you need to upgrade beyond 8 GB.
The supplied AOC i2369Vm monitor is very nice indeed. It features a smart frameless design and sleek silver features. Although designed with home users in mind, it's sure to appeal to design-minded users in the business. Less appealing is the basic one-year RTB warranty. Windows 8 Pro is included, with its downgrade rights to Windows 7 Professional. See all business PC reviews.
