Our Rating: We rate this 4 out of 5

Dino PC Raging Lizard review

The second of two family PCs based on Intel's 4th generation Haswell processors, the Dino PC Raging Lizard takes the 3.2 GHz Core i5-4570 CPU. And to great effect if performance is your goal – it delivered the fastest overall PCMark 7 score of any of this month's family PCs. Take a look at Group test: What's the best family PC?

Losing those 0.2 GHz to the previous-generation Core i5-3570 has obviously not impacted performance at all, as the Raging Lizard turned in a superb score of 6282 points. See also: Braebo Aphrodite review.

Gaming performance was also very good, with a Gigabyte-made nVidia GTX 650 Ti delivering very playable frame rates at high quality settings. Some of these gaming results can be bettered by the Computer Planet F2000 Family PC, with its slightly faster GTX 660. But Dino PC's system costs less overall and comes with features such as a Blu-ray drive and an overly generous 16 GB of memory not found on the Computer Planet PC.

Dino PC has opted for a Gigabyte GA-Z87M-HD3 motherboard employing the enthusiast-grade Z87 Express Chipset.

A 1 TB Seagate hard drive is included, alongside a 128 GB Plextor M5S solid-state drive. This keeps Windows 8 highly responsive. A plug-in card adds 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 capability to the system.

A very stylish AOC i2369VM monitor is included. It features a frameless design with a very thin bezel and an excellent IPS panel which delivers superb picture quality and wide viewing angles. It's certainly a lot easier on the eye than any other display in our round-up and therefore well suited to a family environment where appearances matter. The aggressive-looking Xigmatek Asgard may not be to everyone's taste though. Its gamer-oriented transparent side panel forms a stylised “X”.

Separate DVD±RW and Blu-ray drives are installed and a Trust eLight full-HD webcam is included in the box.

A three-year warranty is included, but labour-only after the first year. For the first thirty days, you'll also get free collection should the system need to be returned for repair.
